Abeka vs Apologia

Postby carljong » Sun Jul 25, 2010 5:01 pm

We're interested in the difference between Abeka and Apologia Physical Science. You take Apologia as independent study, but you take Abeka for a grade. How are those differences looked at by college admissions people?

Which is more interesting in terms of their approach?

Which is easier to use in terms of experiments?

Thanks,

Marie and Carl

I can't compare the two, but our experience with Apologia Physical Science has been good. We had to buy only a few things for the experiments, and they were easy for my daughter to do. Last year was the first year we used Apologia, and also the first year my daughter liked science. We'll be continuing to use Apologia as their explanations are excellent and my dd has gained a good foundation. I'm hoping that the colleges won't be concerned whether the grade has come from Seton or not, the credit still applies, and the course is still listed on the transcript. Many colleges like to see SAT II or AP test scores to validate courses taken and grades earned.

Call High School Math/Science Counselor, Don Valaike - he was extremely helpful.
